The White House expects Ukraine’s likely counteroffensive to be successful, National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said in an interview with CNN.
“We are confident that this counter-offensive will allow Ukraine to take strategically important territories from Russia. <...> We are convinced that the Ukrainians will succeed in this counter-offensive,” he said (quote according to TASS).
At the same time, he noted that the US authorities do not plan to give estimates on the results of this counteroffensive.
Ukraine announces a counteroffensive from the winter. Some officials say the counter-offensive has already begun, while others say preparations are underway. However, the Russian side also speaks about the activation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the front line – in particular, the activation along the line of contact was noted by the acting head of the DPR Denis Pushilin in mid-May.
June 3, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Igor Zhovkva in an interview with The Times declaredthat Ukraine still lacks weapons for a counteroffensive. Kiev noted that the strikes of the Russian army are depleting the stocks of air defense missiles, including American Patriot systems.
