The White House did not confirm the information that the United States is preparing to include Patriot anti-aircraft missile systems (SAM) in a future package of military assistance to Ukraine. This was announced by the coordinator for strategic communications at the National Security Council, John Kirby.
“I cannot confirm this report,” he said, responding to a corresponding request from journalists (cit. according to RIA Novosti). Kirby also noted that the White House will announce the details of a new military aid package for Ukraine when it is ready.
The day before, December 13, CNN informed that the US presidential administration has completed preparations for sending the Patriot to Ukraine. According to the publication, this could be announced this week.
Press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov named Patriot complexes as legitimate military targets of the Russian Armed Forces, if NATO supplies them to Ukraine. Peskov stressed that he was not yet ready to comment on this information in detail, since today “media reports are an unreliable thing,” urging them to wait for official information.
Russia’s special operation in Ukraine began on February 24. Russian President Vladimir Putin called the protection of the inhabitants of Donbass, as well as the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, its goals. In response, Western countries imposed large-scale sanctions against Russia and began to provide military assistance to Ukraine. At the same time, the Russian authorities have repeatedly criticized the supply of Western weapons to Kyiv. In particular, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, has repeatedly pointed out that pumping Ukraine with weapons brings NATO closer to the dangerous line of a direct military clash with Russia.
