The White House has developed a “Trump” strategy for responding to Biden’s impeachment

US President Joe Biden has now effectively become the “Trump of the Democrats.” Speaker of the House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy has launched an official impeachment inquiry into the current head of the White House. The pile of claims includes questions about the business of members of the president’s family, which Biden allegedly did not know about. The American leader gave the first comments on this matter. And the Biden campaign has launched a fundraiser for his defense.

As Joe Biden spoke on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington on Wednesday about the importance of bipartisanship in the fight against cancer, he stubbornly ignored questions from the floor about possible impeachment. It is unlikely that the head of the White House did not hear them (surprisingly). Here, rather, Biden demonstrated his special tactics: he portrays vigorous activity for the benefit of his country, and citizens should see the results and reward him for this with four more years in the presidential chair.

But, as they say, they added pressure. Already away from the prying cameras and having moved to Virginia for a re-election fundraiser, among his loyal supporters, Biden explained: “Look, I have a job. I get up every day—no joke—not focused on impeachment. I have to deal with issues that affect the American people every single day.”

The “we’re above this” strategy, the Associated Press analyzes, is central to the White House’s efforts to resist impeachment proceedings launched by Republicans ahead of the 2024 elections. Of course, the American political game is traditionally ruthless. It is clear that the Republicans, with their initiative, are trying to divert attention from the legal problems of their permanent leader, the scoundrel, Donald Trump.

Biden and company are now attempting to repeat the “achievements” of Trump and his defenders. The troubled 46th President of the United States is convinced that the Republicans are launching a procedure for removing the head of state in order to stop the work of the government.

The White House has been preparing for potential impeachment since Republicans won control of the House of Representatives in the November elections, according to the US press. About two dozen prosecutors are working on this issue. By the way, General Counsel Ed Siskel stepped into the matter (since September 2023, he took up the position of White House Counsel). This name is well known to American society. Siskel is a former lawyer in the Barack Obama administration. It was this man who helped craft the White House’s response to the Congressional investigation into the 2012 Benghazi attack. Then armed militants attacked the American consulate building, firing at the building with grenade launchers, and entered the territory of the diplomatic department, where they set fire. Four diplomatic personnel were killed, including American Ambassador Christopher Stevens.

The Obama administration (also ahead of the presidential election) initially described the attack as a spontaneous crowd protest against an American-made anti-Islamic video. The wording was corrected after a while, but it was too late. So the matter was hushed up.

It seems like history is repeating itself now. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre called the investigation a “political stunt” and referred questions about details to the White House counsel’s office. Officials continue to insist the elder Biden was not involved in his son’s affairs.

Let’s not forget that the investigation is taking place at a fragile political moment for America’s sitting president. Widespread concerns about his age and re-election prospects have caused nervousness in Democratic circles. Some allies have privately expressed concern about how the spotlight on Hunter could be a political and emotional drag on the elder Biden, CNN said.

But this is where Biden’s advisers come into the picture. They believe the legal showdown could be used to Democrats’ advantage if Republicans are seen “as abusing their claims or shirking their leadership responsibilities.” And then – bam! Biden’s re-election campaign launched an email campaign to raise funds from supporters condemning the investigation. Reminds me of Trump’s “tricks,” doesn’t it?

It is unknown whether this will work. A CNN poll released last week found that 61% of Americans believe Biden was involved in his son Hunter’s business deals; 42% said the president acted illegally; 18% considered the actions unethical.

A source familiar with White House strategy made it clear: “We view this as a political communications battle, not a legitimate impeachment inquiry.” In general, the main point is clear: Democrats are belittling Republicans in every possible way. Like, “they can’t even say what they accuse the president of.” At the same time, it is important for the White House that Biden himself comment less (and ideally at all) on the proceedings. That’s the strategy. But still, purely legally, the prospect of removing the president from office remains. But what are the prospects?

– Impeachment is spelled out in the US Constitution. This means that this is possible both theoretically and practically. Republicans will have to collect evidence (right now they only have preliminary and unofficial evidence). They entrusted this to some investigators specially assigned to the case. A parliamentary investigation will now begin, on the basis of which they will begin to make charges. Next they will call witnesses and examine documents. After this, voting starts on the question: “Are there violations or not?” If they exist, then impeachment will be announced on the relevant articles or charges.

Administrative resources have not gone away. Biden is the highest-ranking official in the United States. He can, of course, influence witnesses, legislators, and anyone he wants. You won’t forbid him to do this, but he may be charged with this as an obstacle to the investigation. That’s what they did to Trump.

We don’t know the charges. Speaker McCarthy made a statement, naming the following violations: interference, corruption… These are the basis on which they will consider the available evidence and interrogate witnesses.

Once the charges are approved, the Senate will begin voting. He will play the role of the court, that is, whether to approve or not these violations. How the Senate will vote is “grandmother said in two,” because there are more Democrats there. They have an equal number of votes, but two-thirds of the Senate is needed. You may not get this. It could happen, like with Trump, like with Clinton. The Senate is on the side of the president. So far, no procedure for removing the country’s leader has been completed.
