Washington has not yet drawn conclusions about what caused the destruction of the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters on briefing.
“We are still evaluating what happened,” she answered a question from reporters. At the same time, the representative of the White House added that the ultimate responsibility for what happened in any case lies with Russia.
The breakthrough of the dam of the Kakhovskaya hydroelectric power station occurred on the night of June 6. As a result of the incident, 11 out of 28 spans of the station were destroyed, after which an uncontrolled discharge of water began. The water level reached approximately 11 m. The disaster killed at least 35 people. The Russian and Ukrainian authorities blamed each other for what happened.
Russian President Vladimir Putin at a meeting with military commanders on June 13 toldthat Russia “by and large did not record large explosions before the destruction occurred”, but the APU purposefully hit the station from HIMARS. “Maybe they had some kind of bookmark there, I don’t know now, maybe they once again added something insignificant – and destruction began,” he said.
The total damage to the Kherson region authorities, according to preliminary data, is estimated at 40 billion rubles. Earlier, Saldo said that the restoration of the HPP will take 1.5-2 years and 200 billion rubles. At the same time, it will be possible to begin restoration work only after the end of hostilities, he emphasized.
