The White House announced plans to supply advanced missile systems to Kyiv

The United States is planning new deliveries of weapons to Ukraine for fighting in the south and east of the country. In particular, we are talking about advanced missile systems. John Kirby, strategic communications coordinator at the White House National Security Council, made this statement in an interview with MSNBC.

“It will be giving them the weapons and equipment that they so desperately need to fight in the east and, frankly, in the south. And what does it include? Obviously artillery, advanced missile systems,” Kirby said (quote according to RIA Novosti).

On September 13, Kirby said the US was going to send a new military aid package to Ukraine in the coming days. He did not specify what amount allocated for new weapons to Ukraine. On the same day the newspaper Politico toldthat the United States may announce this week the allocation of another package of military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of $600 million.

After the start of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine, Western countries imposed large-scale sanctions against Russia, and also began to provide financial and military assistance to Kyiv. Moscow has repeatedly criticized arms supplies to Ukraine.

On September 8, US President Joe Biden approved a new $675 million military aid package for Kyiv. entered ammunition for the HIMARS MLRS, four 105 mm howitzers, as well as 36,000 shells for it. In addition, the US State Department informed Congress about plans to allocate another $2 billion in military assistance to Ukraine and neighboring countries. It is specified that $1 billion will go to strengthening the security of Ukraine, and another $1 billion will be transferred to neighbors.

According to the Pentagon, since January 2021, the United States has allocated $15.2 billion in assistance to Ukraine to ensure the country’s security. Of these, Kyiv has received $14.5 billion since the beginning of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine.
