It didn’t snow during the competition, but the object was in an area of ​​thick, partly cloudy weather,” said Mr. Belomestnov.

The FLGR technical delegate added that the exact number of casualties from the collapse would be known by the end of the day. All the injured athletes returned to the hospital, except for one skier who suffered a head injury, he said. Mr. Belomestnov said that the men’s mass start, which was supposed to take place today, has been postponed to tomorrow. The organizers decided to hold a time trial race instead of a mass start, he clarified.

Ms. Vyalbe later told the newspaper “Sport Express”that initially 17 skiers were hospitalized after the collapse. Now all of them have been released, except one, she said.
