The Voronezh Regional Court recognized the murders of the inhabitants of the region by the Nazis during the Great Patriotic War as genocide

Voronezh Regional Court satisfied statement of the regional prosecutor’s office on the recognition of the murders of the inhabitants of the region by the Nazis during the Great Patriotic War as war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.

The application of the supervisory authority has been considered since mid-April last year, it was prepared on behalf of the Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov. In the course of work, the prosecutor’s office studied archival data and interviewed historians and specialists. The claim was accompanied by 19 volumes of materials containing evidence of the events of the seven-month occupation of the Voronezh region from July 1, 1942 to February 2, 1943. During this time, more than 198 thousand peaceful Soviet citizens and prisoners of war died in the region, almost 77 thousand people were forcibly driven away from the territory of the region to the countries of Western Europe.

The total damage from the war crimes of the Nazis in terms of modern money is estimated at almost 12 trillion rubles. The prosecutor’s office explains that the application was filed in order to protect the national interests of the Russian Federation, the legitimate rights and interests of an indefinite circle of people (relatives of the victims), as well as the subsequent communication to the world community of information about the victims of the invaders and punishers during the Great Patriotic War and the restoration of historical justice .
