The Verkhovna Rada approved the appointment of Umerov as Minister of Defense of Ukraine

The Verkhovna Rada appointed Rustem Umerov to the post of Minister of Defense of Ukraine, MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak said.

“The Parliament appointed Rustem Umerov as Minister of Defense of Ukraine. For – 338 [депутатов]”, – wrote he is in his Telegram channel. He specified that the appointment was supported by all factions.

Umerov served as chairman of the State Property Fund of Ukraine (SPFU), on September 5, the Rada voted for his resignation from office. On the same day, the parliament accepted the resignation of Alexei Reznikov, who had served as Minister of Defense since November 2021.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced the dismissal of the Minister of Defense on September 3. Reznikov may take the post of Ukrainian ambassador to the UK. Zelensky explained the reshuffle by saying that the ministry “needs new approaches and other formats of interaction both with the military and with society as a whole.”

In the Kremlin declaredthat Moscow cannot comment on new appointments, as this is Ukraine’s internal affairs. At the same time, as the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov noted, the Kremlin doubts that the reshuffle in the government of Ukraine can “affect the essence of the Kyiv regime.”
