Kommersant FM columnist Alexander Levi talks about the advantages and main characteristics of Wi-Fi 7.

Xiaomi has started selling its cheapest router with Wi-Fi 7. In rubles, the cost of the BE3600 2.5G model is just over 3 thousand units. Despite its availability, the new product offers high performance, as well as intelligent capabilities, the vendor assures.

It’s worth starting with the fact that the user has a new wireless communication standard at his disposal. Wi-Fi 7 provides higher data transfer speeds, reduces traffic latency and has better energy efficiency compared to previous generations of communication. If these parallels are translated into numbers, then the BE3600 2.5G router exceeds the capabilities of Wi-Fi 6 by 44% in actual throughput and by 48% in theoretical peak speed. This data is provided by Xiaomi experts.

The throughput of the new product is 3600 Mb/s, and the theoretical peak speed reaches 3.57 Gb/s. Such numbers became possible, among other things, thanks to MLO (multi-link operation) technology. It combines the standard frequency ranges of 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. A couple more technologies with speech therapy names 4KQAM and OFDMA optimally distribute bandwidth resources depending on the needs of devices receiving the Wi-Fi signal.

Also, built-in network security protection is responsible for the intelligent components of the gadget. All data on risk incidents and prevented cyber threats are sent to the user in real time in the Mijia APP.

The performance of the basic configuration of the Xiaomi router is driven by a 1.1-core Qualcomm processor with a computing power of 10120 DMIPS, a frequency of 4 GHz and 256 MB of memory. The router is equipped with four high-gain Wi-Fi antennas and is ready to serve up to 128 devices simultaneously. This kit works for stable and wide coverage. But just in case, the new product also supports Xiaomi Mesh technology. Such a single unified network can combine up to a dozen routers.
