On Monday, April 1, US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo and UK Technology Secretary Michelle Donnellan signed memorandum of understanding between the two countries in the field of artificial intelligence.

The partnership between the two countries will include testing the most advanced AI models, developing common approaches to the safe use of artificial intelligence, and cooperation in the scientific and technological industries. Representatives of the United States and Great Britain expressed hope that joint work will help minimize potential risks when using AI and make this technology as effective and useful for society as possible.

Ms. Raimondo and Ms. Donnellan emphasized that collaboration on AI is in line with the direction outlined last November at the AI Security Summit (AI Safety Summit). This event took place in the UK, and was attended by representatives of 28 countries, including the USA, Japan, Germany, France, China, Brazil, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Australia, as well as representatives of the European Commission.

As a result of the summit, a joint agreement was adopted declaration (“Bletchley Declaration”), which states that states will focus on identifying AI security risks and collaborate with each other in developing strategies, recognizing however that each country can choose its own approach to solving the problem. Representatives of participating countries also spoke in favor of transparency in AI developments carried out by private companies, and stated their intention to encourage international research projects in this area.

The number of lawsuits surrounding the use of AI has increased, more about this in the material “Controversial Intelligence”.
