Aydınlık: American diplomats threaten companies in Turkey with sanctions due to trade with Russia
The Aydınlık newspaper, citing informed sources, reports that diplomats from the US Embassy and Consulate General in Ankara and Istanbul are visiting Turkish companies and financial institutions and making threats because of their trade ties with Russia.
These publications indicate that employees of American diplomatic agencies visit Turkish companies and financial organizations that do business with the Russian Federation and threaten them with inclusion in sanctions lists. Representatives of the companies interviewed by the newspaper claim that Americans made threats against them, going door to door or directly inviting them to the US Embassy.
One of the Turkish company’s employees, who wished to remain anonymous, said one of the officials was Gülin Can Yükseltan, an export control specialist at the US Consulate General in Istanbul. Aydınlık correspondent contacted Yükseltan, who did not deny the information about the visits to the company, but emphasized that she was not authorized to provide information on this issue.
