US authorities have announced their readiness to return to the New START treaty

The US authorities are ready to fully implement their obligations under the Treaty on Measures for the Further Reduction and Limitation of Strategic Offensive Arms (START). The only condition is if Russia takes the same steps.

This is stated in the State Department’s report on countries’ compliance with agreements in the field of arms control, non-proliferation and disarmament, published on the American government website.

An agreement between the Russian Federation and the United States on measures to further reduce and limit strategic offensive weapons was signed in the spring of 2010 in Prague. In 2023, Russia suspended its participation in the treaty, in particular, due to the fact that NATO representatives demanded that they be allowed into Russian defense facilities in the context of the ongoing Northern Military District.
