The US military insists on the transfer of F-16 fighters to Kyiv

US military officials are “quietly pushing” for the Pentagon to approve sending F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine, Politico writes, citing its own sources.
As Ukraine prepares to launch a new offensive in the spring, a campaign within the Pentagon to transfer fighter jets to Kyiv is gaining momentum, according to a Defense Department spokesman and two other sources.
One Ukrainian government adviser said the issue had been raised in Washington, but “nothing too serious” had yet been discussed.
Another source familiar with the conversations between Washington and Kyiv said it could take “weeks” for the US to make a decision on deliveries of its own aircraft and approve the re-export of F-16s from other countries.
Earlier, Germany refused to transfer combat aircraft to Ukraine, while the UK expressed its readiness to consider such a possibility if “Russian troops leave the territory of Ukraine.” The United States said that they could transfer any, including the most sophisticated weapons systems, to Kyiv.
