The US House of Representatives approved the allocation of $300 million to Kyiv separately from the budget

The US House of Representatives approved a bill to allocate $300 million in military assistance to Ukraine. Broadcast of the meeting on September 28 led C-SPAN TV channel.

The bill was supported by 311 members of the lower house of Congress, 117 voted against. Additional funds for Ukraine were previously included in the draft budget of the Ministry of Defense, but the issue of their allocation was included in a separate document to simplify its adoption.

Lawmakers then also voted on the Pentagon budget proposal. The document was supported by 218 congressmen, 210 were against it.

Previously the House of Representatives rejected an amendment by Congressman Andy Biggs (Republican from Arizona), providing for the exclusion of the clause on the allocation of $300 million to Kiev from the draft defense budget. The initiative was rejected by 330 legislators, including 117 Republicans, and was supported by 104 members of the Republican Party.

At the same time, the House of Representatives rejected another amendment, which proposed to completely stop allocating funds from the budget for military assistance to Kyiv. It was supported by 93 members of the lower house of Congress, while 339 people were against it.

Russian authorities have repeatedly criticized military assistance to Ukraine and pointed to the growing direct and indirect involvement of Western countries in the conflict. In September 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the Russian army in Ukraine was confronting “virtually the entire military machine of the collective West.”
