The US does not yet plan to supply ATACMS missiles to Ukraine

Washington will not yet supply ATACMS tactical missiles to Kyiv, but is not taking it off the table for the future. This was stated by Assistant to the US President for National Security Jake Sullivan.
“He [президент США Джо Байден] has concluded that it will not supply ATACMS. But it also doesn’t take it off the table for the future,” Sullivan said (quote according to TASS).
The presidential aide added that Biden is “constantly talking to both his country’s military, his counterparts in Europe and the Ukrainians themselves” about what is required on the battlefield. “[Байден] takes all this into account,” Sullivan said.
September 20 Foreign Policy magazine reportedthat all relevant US departments have approved the shipment of ATACMS long-range missiles to Ukraine. Sources noted that if the transfer of missiles to Kyiv does not happen, it is because President Joe Biden himself said no.
ATACMS weighs about 2 tons, the cost of one guided missile is about $1.5 million. Their firing range reaches 300 km; such missiles can be launched using HIMARS MLRS, which the Ukrainian Armed Forces already have.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, commenting on Washington’s plans to transfer long-range missiles to Kiev, stated that by supplying weapons to Kiev, the United States, with the help of Ukraine, is waging a war against Russia. Deputy Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that this is the result of “non-stop escalation” on the part of Washington.
