The US Department of Justice launched an investigation in connection with the appearance in social networks of secret documents of the Ministry of Defense
The United States Department of Justice has launched an investigation into the publication of classified Pentagon files on social media, the Associated Press (AP) reported on Saturday.
According to the AP, the compromised documents are “dated between February 23 and March 1” and may contain “detailed information on the progress of deliveries of weapons and equipment to Ukraine with more precise dates and quantities than the United States usually provides publicly.”
Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said Friday that the US Department of Defense has “officially referred” the matter to the Justice Department for investigation. The Justice Ministry said it was “in touch with the Ministry of Defense” and “launched an investigation,” because, according to the agency, “questions continued to arise about the origin and validity of the documents.”
The New York Times reported that a new batch of about 100 classified documents detailing U.S. national security actions and plans surfaced on social media on Friday. This was the second leak in 2 days. The new batch of documents reflects the US policy “from Ukraine to the Middle East and China.” They have “confidential briefing slides on China, the Indo-Pacific theatre, the Middle East and terrorism.”
The first batch of documents that appeared on Twitter and Telegram became known on Thursday. Those documents concerned the strengthening of the army of Ukraine.
