Musk was accused of violating obligations regarding Taiwan
Mike Gallagher, chairman of the US House Select Committee on Strategic Competition with China, accused SpaceX owner Elon Musk of possibly not fulfilling his obligations to provide satellite Internet in Taiwan. RIA Novosti reports this with reference to the Wall Street Journal.
According to an official letter signed by Gallagher, Musk’s company may not be providing broadband Internet access in Taiwan and surrounding areas, which is contrary to obligations under the contract between SpaceX and the US government.
As stated in the document, Musk’s company has a contractual obligation to provide broadband Internet access in all parts of the world, both for the Pentagon and for other organizations in the United States. It is noted that the US authorities have allocated more than $100 million for these purposes.
The letter asks SpaceX to clarify the situation in relation to Taiwan.
Currently, Starlink provides broadband Internet access around the world; for this purpose, more than four thousand Starlink devices are deployed in Earth orbit.
