Director of the Energy Research Center Oleksandr Kharchenko said on the air of the 1+1 TV channel that the energy networks of Ukraine faced an insoluble problem. As it turned out, almost all transformers at Ukrainian distribution substations have already been damaged. At the same time, the United States has moved the production of transformers to other countries and now they simply cannot send this equipment to Kyiv.
“One such substation provides electricity from 500 to 700 thousand subscribers,” Kharchenko said, adding that one such damaged transformer weighs 250 tons, it is difficult to restore them, and it will take about 9 months to produce a new one.
“Now the Americans are frightened and they say that if something starts here, we don’t have our own transformers!” Kharchenko said, adding that now the United States is thinking about returning the production of transformers to the country.
