The United States is verifying reports that American weapons were used to destroy the Russian Defense Ministry’s Il-76 aircraft by the Ukrainian military. This was announced on Thursday, January 25, by Deputy Press Secretary of the Pentagon Sabrina Singh.
A spokeswoman for the defense department confirmed that the ministry had seen messages of such content.
However, Singh emphasized that she does not yet have any data on this issue and cannot comment on the substance.
Earlier, Vedant Patel, deputy head of the State Department press service, said that Washington would support the Russian and Ukrainian authorities own investigations upon the crash of Il-76. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has already opened a criminal case regarding a terrorist act.
Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe Alexander Lukashevich said that the Russian Federation did not invite either the OSCE or the UN to the investigation into the Il-76 shot down by Ukraine. He emphasized that he does not even allow the thought of involving “those who are poisoned by this Ukrainian-Western poison” in the investigation.
