The United States warned Ukraine about the problem with Leopard tanks

According to American expert David Ex, the Belgian Leopard 1A5BE tanks, which will be sent to Kyiv, have some problems with the fire control system (FCS) developed by SABCA. Earlier, the German defense concern Rheinmetall purchased 50 Leopard 1 tanks from Belgium, and 30 of them are to be transferred to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The expert notes that the 1A5BE modification of the Leopard tanks is equipped with the Belgian SABCA fire control system, which improves accuracy compared to the usual German system.
At the same time, SABCA requires special care and technical support, and there are already signs that some of these systems on 1A5BE tanks purchased by Rheinmetall from OIP Land Systems (a Belgian company) are in poor condition.
He hints that the remaining 20 purchased tanks will be dismantled to obtain spare parts needed to repair 30 vehicles that will be sent to Ukraine.
The expert added that problems with the SLA are not the biggest concern for the Armed Forces. He calls the thin steel armor of the tanks a more serious problem. The thickness of this armor is only 70 millimeters, which does not provide adequate protection even from heavy machine guns of the Russian forces.
