The United States warned of the risk of “exhaustion” of the West because of Ukraine

NATO allies, together with Volodymyr Zelenskiy, need to develop a long-term viable strategy due to the fact that the conflict in Ukraine is becoming protracted. Otherwise, the development of the situation will lead to a “long and painful dead end”. Gerald F. Hyman, an analyst with the American magazine National Interest, expressed this opinion in his article.

In his opinion, what is happening is similar to a “war of attrition”. Western countries provide billions of dollars worth of military aid to Ukraine, while Russia possesses a large number of missiles, armored vehicles and other weapons. Hyman drew attention to the fact that the allied countries suffer from high inflation rates and will not be able to provide assistance to Kyiv indefinitely. He also explained that the current state of affairs has already become a pretext for the start of a political split in the United States. Some Republicans spoke out against funding Ukraine. At the same time, in Italy the situation in the economy is now close to the post-war. France and the UK are also unlikely to be ready to support Zelensky at such a price. So the further heroism of Ukrainians in the absence of major successes, according to Hyman, may seem redundant to the West.
