The United States faced disagreements in agreeing on the final declaration at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit over members’ positions on Ukraine. Matt Murray, senior representative of the State Department for APEC, spoke about this on Monday, November 13.
According to the official, such disagreements have been arising “over the last couple of years.”
However, as Murray assured, Washington continues to work on a “consensus statement” with APEC members, including Russia.
Earlier, a leading researcher at the Center for Security Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Konstantin Blokhin, suggested that at the APEC summit “U.S. will test the waters for dialogue with Russia on various issues, including the conflict in Ukraine.”
A meeting between US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping is expected to take place on the sidelines of the summit. At the same time, the media noted that Ukraine “set up” Biden before the meeting with Xi Jinping. Journalists called the failure of the counter-offensive of Ukrainian troops and the statement of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny “a blow to the strategic positions of the United States” about the deadlock at the front.
