The United States does not intend to replenish its stockpiles of cluster munitions after deliveries to Ukraine

After the transfer of cluster munitions to Ukraine, Washington does not plan to restore its own stock of bombs, National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan told NBC News.
“Our current plan is not to rebuild this stock,” said he (quote from RIA Novosti).
According to Sullivan, the US intends to increase the stockpile of 155mm rounds that are not cluster rounds. He also said that the “moral authority” of the United States in the context of supplies comes from support for Ukraine.
On July 7, the White House announced the transfer of cluster munitions to Kyiv. A week later, the Pentagon reported that weapons were already in Ukraine. Prior to this, the US military said that the risks to the civilian population associated with the use of cluster munitions by the Ukrainian army did not exceed concerns about Russia’s victory in the conflict in Ukraine.
Against the background of the deliveries, the Kremlin warned that if Ukraine uses such weapons, Russia will be forced to take countermeasures. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, commenting on Washington’s decision, recalled the words of former White House press secretary Jen Psaki, who in February 2022 stated that the use of cluster munitions is a war crime. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu explained Washington’s decision to supply cluster munitions by the shortage of 155-caliber shells in the United States.
