John Kirby, strategic communications coordinator at the US National Security Council, said during a briefing that the US administration does not dictate to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky “what victory looks like.” According to Kirby, the Ukrainian leader must determine this himself.
The White House official added that the United States only says that it will provide assistance to Ukraine.
Asked about the possibility of strikes on Crimea, Kirby said: “It is up to President Zelenskiy and his military leadership.” He added that the United States does not recognize the Russian ownership of the peninsula.
Journalists asked the question in connection with the recent statement by Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh that the United States will support Ukraine, including a possible operation to seize Crimea.
Earlier, the head of the Crimean parliament, Vladimir Konstantinov, warned that if the Kyiv authorities strike at Crimea, they will receive a retaliatory strike.
