State Department: Washington cannot say whether military presence in Iraq will be curtailed

The United States cannot yet determine for sure whether it will completely reduce its military presence in Iraq. This position was expressed by a senior US State Department official at a special telephone briefing on US-Iraq relations.

“At this time, I cannot make any assumptions about how this will all end, because this is exactly what we are talking about now,” said a representative of the American foreign policy department, answering a question about a possible phased withdrawal of American troops from Iraq.

The briefing was organized in connection with the upcoming negotiations between US President Joe Biden and Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed al-Sudani, scheduled for April 15 at the White House.
