The United States asked Poland to explain the essence of statements that Warsaw will no longer provide military support to Ukraine, writes Bloomberg, citing a senior Pentagon official.

According to the military official, Poland remains committed to supporting Ukraine, but the exact position of official Warsaw is not yet clear. On September 20, Prime Minister of the Republic Mateusz Morawiecki said that Poland would no longer supply weapons to Ukraine and focus on arming its own army. Later in Poland explainedthat they will continue to supply weapons under previously concluded contracts, but there are no further plans to conclude new agreements in this area.

The Pentagon assured that the dispute between Eastern European countries, which began over the supply of Ukrainian grain, has not yet led to a split in the regional coalition that supports Ukraine.

The agency notes that Polish diplomats privately assured foreign colleagues that Warsaw will continue to provide military support to Kyiv, albeit in smaller amounts. According to a European diplomatic source, the end of Poland’s support for Ukraine could lead to a split in NATO.

On September 15, the European Commission (EC) lifted restrictions on the import of Ukrainian grain to Eastern European countries. After this, Poland announced the extension of the ban. Hungary and Slovakia also disagreed with the EC’s decision. On September 18, Ukraine filed claims with the World Trade Organization (WTO) against Hungary, Poland and Slovakia, which renewed the embargo on the import of Ukrainian agricultural products. Ukraine also threatened to impose restrictions on the supply of Polish products.
