The US agrees with Russia that a nuclear war cannot be won and should not be started, said John Kirby, coordinator for strategic communications at the White House National Security Council.
“The Russian leadership says that a nuclear war cannot be won, and also that it should never be unleashed. We agree with this statement,” Kirby said (quote according to RIA Novosti).
According to him, in the current conditions, when Washington fixes “dangerous”, from his point of view, rhetoric from Moscow regarding the possibility of using nuclear weapons, the United States considers it especially important to keep channels of communication with Russia open.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said earlier that the heads of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) of Russia and the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of the United States, Sergei Naryshkin and William Burns, agreed to refrain from using nuclear weapons. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov confirmed the fact of negotiations.
Peskov also insisted that Moscow refuses to engage in nuclear rhetoric, which is actively supported by Western media.
