Chairman of the Union of Journalists of Russia (UJR) Vladimir Solovyov said that the organization would insist on the abolition of criminal and administrative liability in cases of spreading fakes and discrediting the Russian army. However, the SZHR expects to begin seeking the abolition of articles after the end of hostilities in Ukraine.
“During the conduct of a special military operation, there are sets of restrictions, including restrictions on freedom of the press. This is necessary in order, again, not to harm … We are talking about the fact that when the SVO ends, we will insist that all restrictions be lifted, ”said Vladimir Solovyov during a lecture at UrFU (TASS quote) .
He noted that the UJR twice succeeded in canceling fines for journalists for “incorrect statements in relation to the SVO.”
On March 4, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed into law a law criminalizing fake news about the Russian army, which has affected media coverage of events in Ukraine and limited the list of sources and topics available for use in public discussion of the actions of the Russian army. A number of media outlets have been temporarily closed due to the new law or have been blocked. Yesterday, February 15, in the case of military fakes, by the time six years of the colony was sentenced RusNews journalist Maria Ponomarenko. On February 1, journalist Alexander Nevzorov (recognized as a foreign agent) in absentia sentenced to eight years in prison under the same article. An offense under the article of the Code of Administrative Offenses on discrediting the Russian army for legal entities entails a fine of up to 1 million rubles.
