At a meeting of the UN Security Council, it was not possible to adopt a resolution presented by Russia, which called for an immediate ceasefire in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict zone. The document contained a strict condemnation of violence against civilians, as well as “all acts of terrorism.”
The main goal of the Russian resolution was to ensure a sustainable and fully respected humanitarian ceasefire, as well as the release of all hostages. In addition, the text called for the unimpeded distribution of humanitarian aid and the creation of conditions for the evacuation of civilians.
However, the resolution failed to obtain the required 9 votes in favor for its adoption. According to the voting results, 5 countries supported the resolution, 4 were against it, and 6 abstained.
Thus, Russia, China, the UAE, Gabon and Mozambique voted for the adoption of the document. The US, UK, France and Japan opposed it. Abstaining: Albania, Brazil, Ghana, Malta, Switzerland and Ecuador.
