Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili said on Monday, October 16, that she does not intend to leave her post. This is how the politician commented on the decision of the Georgian Constitutional Court, which recognized her violation of the fundamental law of the state.
Zurabishvili stated that she would remain “where I am and have been all my life, why I came here, stayed, stood on the street – for our democratic values.”
According to the Georgian president, “today they killed the European future, at least they tried, and democracy with one shot.”
Earlier, the former head of the State Chancellery of Georgia, Petre Mamradze, noted that representatives of the ruling party who initiated the procedure understand that impeachment through parliament is unlikely to be possible — they will not be able to collect the hundred votes of deputies necessary for this. However, we are talking about a fundamental issue: the violation of the Constitution by the head of state cannot be ignored.
The head of the ruling Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia party, Irakli Kobakhidze, confirmed that impeachment of the Georgian President is practically excluded due to a lack of votes. However, the vote will happen after all.
