Russian Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya told reporters that everyone in the UN Security Council was unanimous in favor of an early ceasefire between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
He added that the meeting discussed the need to resolve the situation through political and diplomatic means.
“The ‘elements for the press’ are now being discussed. Experts are finalizing them,” the Russian envoy said.
According to Nebenzi, Russia will insist that the UN Security Council statement contain a reference to the tripartite statements of the presidents of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan from 2020 and 2021. These statements, the diplomat recalled, contained commitments to a ceasefire and a number of projects that the parties should undertake.
He also said that the UN Security Council thanked Russia for the ongoing efforts through the CSTO to achieve a truce.
