The United Nations is recording a record shortfall in funding from donor countries for humanitarian aid around the world, reports the New York Times.
This is reportedly due to the growing needs of needy states and the increase in the number of those in need, as well as the fact that most donor countries prefer to help Ukraine directly.
UN Assistant Secretary General for Humanitarian Affairs Martin Griffiths said the organization is facing the biggest funding gap it has ever seen.
At the same time, the UN calls on donor countries to show the same “generosity” to the countries of the Middle East or Africa, which is noted in relation to Ukraine. The organization recalled that the food crisis, the coronavirus pandemic, political crises and conflicts are also taking place in countries other than Ukraine.
