More than 1.5 million residents of the Gaza Strip have been forced to flee their homes since October 7, when the situation in the region sharply worsened. This was announced on Monday, November 6, in the office of the UN Secretary General.
Antonio Guterres himself said that the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip has grown into a “crisis of humanity.” The UN Secretary General called the events in the enclave a nightmare in which the Israeli military is bombing civilians, hospitals, refugee camps, mosques, churches and UN facilities, including shelters.
The UN and its partners have announced they are raising $1.2 billion to help people in the war-torn region. The funds will be used to support 2.7 million people.
Earlier, Chinese columnist Jerry Gray compared the current situation in the Gaza Strip with the terrorist attacks in the USA on September 11emphasizing that “we cannot continue to kill innocent people indiscriminately; this is what real leaders should be calling for.”
At the same time, Egypt has been facing a dilemma for several weeks over the opening of the Rafah checkpoint with the Gaza Strip: Cairo wants to help the most seriously affected Palestinians leave the country, but categorically refuses to consider the possibility influx of Palestinian refugees into the Sinai Peninsula.
