The UN calls on Russia and Ukraine to refrain from steps leading to an escalation of the conflict. This statement was made by Deputy Spokesperson of the UN Secretary General Farhan Haq, commenting on reports of the incident with drones over the Kremlin.
“We strongly reiterate our call to all stakeholders to refrain from any rhetoric or action that could further escalate the conflict,” he said (quote according to RIA Novosti).
Haq noted that the organization had read the statements of Moscow and Kyiv about the incident, but could not confirm these reports.
On the night of May 3, two drones tried to attack the Kremlin, reported in the press service of the President of Russia. As a result of the incident, Russian President Vladimir Putin was not injured, he continues to work as usual in Novo-Ogaryovo, said press secretary of the head of state Dmitry Peskov.
The Kremlin called the actions of Kyiv “a planned terrorist act, an attempt on the life of the President of Russia.” The press service also stressed that Moscow reserves the right to take retaliatory measures “where and when it sees fit.” There were no casualties as a result of the incident, and no material damage was caused.
In Kyiv, involvement in the attack is denied. Earlier today, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky at a press conference in Helsinki emphasizedthat Ukraine “does not attack Putin or Moscow.”
