UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres appealed to the Israeli authorities with a demand to allow humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, and to Hamas to release the hostages who are in the enclave. His statement published on the UN website.
“Life-saving supplies, including fuel, food and water, must be allowed into Gaza. What we need now is rapid and unhindered humanitarian access. <...> “I call for the immediate release of all Israeli hostages held in the Gaza Strip,” he said.
On the morning of October 7, the Palestinian group Hamas began military operations against Israel. On that day, Hamas militants attacked the army’s border units and freely entered Israeli populated areas, where they captured an unknown number of hostages from among both military and civilians. Previously, IDF spokesman reportedthat 155 people are being held hostage by Hamas.
October 15 Israel opened humanitarian corridor. The IDF suspended shelling of the Salah al-Din highway from 10:00 to 13:00 local time (the same as Moscow time) for the passage of the population. On the same day, Israeli authorities resumed supply of water to the Gaza Strip after agreeing on the issue with the United States.
According to the latest data, the death toll in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict has exceeded 3,900 people. By information Al Jazeera TV channel, the death toll on the Israeli side reached 1,300 people, on the Palestinian side – exceeded 2,670.
