The UN acknowledged that peace talks on Ukraine are still far away

Substantive talks on a cessation of hostilities in Ukraine are “still a long way off,” Farhan Haq, Deputy Representative of the UN Secretary-General, said.
A concrete discussion of a future truce is a very distant prospect, he said, despite the fact that on Thursday UN Secretary General António Guterres, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan discussed measures to resolve the Ukraine.
“The parties … are still very far from discussing efforts for a complete cessation of hostilities,” Haq said.
As Erdogan said earlier, Guterres and Zelensky agree that the conflict should be resolved at the negotiating table. At the same time, Zelensky himself said that Ukraine would only negotiate if the Russian Federation left all the territories now occupied by Russian troops.
