The Ukrainian military broke through the ceiling of the premises of the special building of the Zaporizhzhya NPP, where fuel for the reactor is stored, informed representative of the military-civilian administration of the region Vladimir Rogov in his Telegram channel.

“The roof of the special building No. 1 of the Zaporizhzhya NPP pierced as a result of a strike by Zelensky’s militants. Fresh fuel for the ZNPP reactors is stored in this building,” Rogov wrote, attaching photos. At the same time, the CAA noted that the radiation background after the last shelling remains normal.

The head of the military-civilian administration of Energodar, Alexander Volga, in turn, noted that the Ukrainian military is using the American M777 howitzer to strike at the city. “A shell was fired from the city of Nikopol, on the opposite side of the Dnieper. An American M777 howitzer was used for firing,” he said.

Earlier today, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, said that the agency’s mission went to the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. Grossi reiterated that the purpose of the mission is to ensure the safety and security of “the largest nuclear facility in Ukraine and Europe.” Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov stressed that the mission is guaranteed security during the visit to ZNPP.

On August 26, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that the Ukrainian side is doing everything to disrupt the trip of the IAEA mission to the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. The diplomatic department pointed out that Ukrainian troops were inflicting new strikes on the ZNPP, including hitting the spent nuclear fuel storage area. On the same day, it became known that Ukraine had lost electricity generated by the ZNPP – all six units of the plant were disconnected from the energy system of Ukraine.

During a special operation in Ukraine, the Russian military took control of the ZNPP. At the same time, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation has repeatedly emphasized that it does not use the facility for military purposes and does not place weapons on its territory. The discussion of the visit of the IAEA mission to the station has been going on since the beginning of August, when shelling of nuclear power plants by Ukraine increased significantly.
