“New People” filed a counterclaim against the Pskov Electoral Commission

The Pskov branch of the New People party filed a counterclaim against the Territorial Election Commission (TEC) of Pskov, which is trying to remove the list of party candidates from the elections to the Pskov City Duma through the court. Party members told Kommersant about this following the results of the court session today, August 29.
The Pskov TEC filed a lawsuit to invalidate its own decision to register the list of “New People” after receiving information from the Ministry of Internal Affairs that some candidates’ signatures were affixed in one hand in the registration documents. The party conducted its own examination, which refutes the arguments of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The court at a meeting on August 26 appointed a re-check of documents. But today, the New People filed a counterclaim against the TEC to recognize as illegal the inaction of the commission, expressed, according to the party members, in the failure to make a decision on three candidates from the list: they are not registered, but they are not excluded from the single list of candidates.
These candidates are included in the territorial groups of the party list, which previously included party members whose signatures on nomination documents were considered fake by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Since New People had two candidates in these groups – the minimum number allowed under local law – after the exclusion of the “violators”, the TEC considered that the territorial groups had ceased to exist, but did not make separate decisions on candidates who had not previously been excluded . The New People believe that the commission was required by law to do so. The court accepted the claim for proceedings.
