The Ukrainian authorities announced a halving of the amount of EU aid for 2024

The EU could allocate €9 billion to Ukraine out of a planned funding of €18 billion next year. Deputy Minister of Economy for Digital Development, Digital Transformations and Digitalization of Ukraine Alexey Sobolev announced this on Ukrainian television.

“The European Union is ready to allocate only half of the planned amount of funding to Ukraine for next year. This is 9 billion euros, not 18 as planned,” he said (quote according to TASS).

October 9, press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov statedthat support for Ukraine by Western countries will decrease regardless of the situation in Israel, since technical capabilities have their limits, and money tends to run out.

In June 2023, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen suggested reserve 50 billion euros from EU funds for Kyiv for the reconstruction of the country for 2024–2027. Later, the EC clarified that in order to receive funding, Ukraine must adopt a plan for the reconstruction of the country, including introducing reforms necessary for joining the European Union. However, this program has not yet been approved by the EU countries.

20 October von der Leyen reportedthat since the beginning of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine in 2022, the EU has sent Kyiv about $90 billion in aid, of which a third went to arms supplies.

Russian authorities have repeatedly criticized the supply of Western weapons to Kyiv and pointed to the growing direct and indirect involvement of Western countries in the conflict in Ukraine. Moscow also pointed to an attempt by the West to prolong the fighting with arms supplies.
