Former British soldiers may begin to be punished for training pilots in China, said the Kingdom’s Defense Minister Grant Shapps. writes The Telegraph.
“Anyone who acts against UK interests by training the armed forces of our competitors can now expect to be prosecuted and brought to justice,” Shapps said.
In October 2022, The Guardian newspaper, citing British intelligence reportedthat China is trying to recruit current and former RAF jet pilots to help train its pilots. It was clarified that about 30 former pilots accepted the offer.
In the autumn of the same year, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced the end of the “golden era” of relations between London and Beijing. The Prime Minister noted that the PRC has challenged the interests and values of Britain. However, he did not call China a threat.
On September 10 this year, Sunak at the G20 summit accused China interfering in the work of the British Parliament. Before this, the media wrote about the detention of an assistant to a member of the British Parliament on suspicion of spying for China.
