The bilateral contract is for two years. Daniil Ogirchuk, 23, was born in Estonia and started playing hockey in St. Petersburg. He played for all the teams of the SKA system: in the junior Silver Lions, Bulldogs and Varyags, SKA-Karelia, SKA-Varyags and SKA-1946 at the youth level, SKA-Neva in the VHL, and in SKA and Sochi he made his way to the KHL.
He made his senior debut at the age of 20, scoring 27 (7+20) points in the VHL in his first season. In the same season, he tried his hand at the KHL, but in three matches for SKA he spent a little more than a minute on the ice and did not score points. He spent the next season in the VHL, and in the summer of 2020, along with five other young players, he was sent to receive playing practice on the Black Sea coast.
In Sochi, the forward received more playing time, in 24 matches he scored a puck and an assist in the KHL with 20 power moves and 17 blocked shots, and in December the St. Petersburg club returned him back to re-declare in the VHL. The striker’s most productive season was 2021/22: 31 (19+12) in 37 matches and 4 (3+1) in 17 Petrov Cup matches. In total, Ogirchuk played 172 matches in the VHL in the regular season, scoring 106 (45 + 61) points for performance in the protocols and scored 13 (9 + 4) points in the 41st playoff match.
The hockey player, who turns 24 in September, can hardly be considered young, but he failed to fully reveal himself in the SKA system crowded with top players. Considered a few years ago, if not a rising star, then a very promising novice hockey player, Ogirchuk did not convince the leadership of the St. Petersburg club of his ability to play for the main team and stayed up in the VHL. This explains the rather modest amount of compensation by hockey standards (3 million rubles) requested by the club from the banks of the Neva, and the cost of the player’s salary is also small (he will be able to receive 5 million rubles only if he spends the entire season in the KHL).
The numbers are not great for a player who will definitely be a decent reinforcement for Toros, even if he fails to break into the main team of the republic. “Yulaevsky” management is insured and increases its reserves for unforeseen cases, which are rich in a long season. In Ufa, they will certainly give him the opportunity to prove himself, but in Salavat Yulaev there are enough wingers and it will not be much easier for Daniil to move one of them than in a team from the northern capital.
