The State Bank of Sweden Prize in Economics in Memory of Alfred Nobel was awarded to American researcher Claudia Goldin for “improving understanding of the role of women in the labor market.” The researcher became the third woman in history to receive the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences.
Since the Nobel Prize was founded in 1901, the award has been awarded to 64 women. This is approximately 13 times less than the number of male laureates.
Moreover, just at the beginning of the 21st century, there have already been more women awarded the Nobel Prize than in the entire last century.
