In some places, the layer of ash that fell after the eruption of the Shiveluch volcano in Kamchatka has reached 20 cm. Clearing settlements from ash and snow will begin today, April 12. This was announced by Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Kamchatka Territory Roman Vasilevsky.
“In Kozyrevsk, the ash layer was 6-8 cm. In the Keys, there is much more ash. Today, the layer is about 11 cm, in places where there is overflow, the height reaches 20 cm,” said Roman Vasilevsky (quoted by RIA Novosti). According to him, the ashfall continued at night and in the morning of April 12.
The Shiveluch volcano began erupting on April 10. Nearby settlements were covered with ash falls, which have become the strongest over the past 60 years. The thickness of the layer of volcanic ash for four hours of the eruption reached 8.5 cm. On the morning of April 12 in Kamchatka reportedthat the volcano released a column of ash to a height of 10 km above sea level.
