Swedish sprint skier Markus Grathe, in an interview with the Aftonbladet newspaper, explained the fear of communicating with Russian athletes by wiretapping.
After the start of the Russian military special operation in Ukraine, the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) permanently suspended Russian and Belarusian athletes from international competitions.
Grate noted that he was personally acquainted with the three-time winner of the world championships in the sprint Gleb Retivykh, and said that he was “afraid to write to him so as not to set him up somehow”.
“It is not known whether they listen to him or not. What he can or cannot talk about, what situation he is in, ”he said.
At the same time, the Swedish athlete admitted that he “does not have enough opportunity to communicate with the Russians.”
Earlier it was reported that the FIS is studying the possibility of allowing Russian and Belarusian athletes to participate in competitions under a neutral flag. Organization President Johan Eliasch said in an interview with Dagbladet newspaper that FIS will accept any decision of the International Olympic Committee regarding the admission of Russian athletes to international competitions.
