Responsibilities of the Chairman of the Supreme Court of Russia after of death Vyacheslav Lebedev was temporarily assigned to the first deputy Petr Serkov, the press service of the court reported. Soon the qualification board will announce a competition for the position of chairman.
“Currently, the duties of the chairman of the Supreme Court are temporarily performed by the first deputy, Pyotr Serkov,” said press secretary of the RF Supreme Court Pavel Odintsov.
Petr Serkov is a member of the Presidium of the Supreme Court, since 2009 – first deputy chairman. From 2003 to 2009, he was Chairman of the Judicial Collegium for Administrative Cases of the RF Armed Forces.
On the death of Chairman of the RF Armed Forces Vyacheslav Lebedev reported Kommersant’s source today, this was later confirmed by the court’s press service. Vyacheslav Lebedev has been Chairman of the Supreme Court since December 1991 (before that, since 1989 – Chairman of the Supreme Court of the RSFSR).
According to Kommersant, Vyacheslav Lebedev died in the hospital after a long and prolonged illness. According to Kommersant’s source, we are talking about oncology. Despite his illness, on February 6, Vyacheslav Lebedev met with President Vladimir Putin and reported to him on bills aimed, among other things, at humanizing criminal law.
