The Supreme Court of Chechnya commuted the sentence of the wife of ex-judge Zarema Musaeva

The Supreme Court of Chechnya commuted the sentence of the wife of a former federal judge and mother of Yangulbayev activists Zarema Musayeva – from 5.5 years in a general regime colony to 5 years in a penal colony. Correspondents reported this TASS And “RIA News” from the courtroom. The time spent in a pre-trial detention center will be counted as two days.

“Recognize the presence of chronic diseases of Musaeva as mitigating circumstances and assign her to serve five years of imprisonment in a penal settlement,” the judge announced the decision. The prosecutor asked for a mitigation of the sentence due to the convict’s health condition. The woman has type 2 diabetes.

At the beginning of 2022, Zarema Musaeva’s family reported that she had been kidnapped in Nizhny Novgorod. Later, the Ministry of Internal Affairs explained that she was taken for questioning in a fraud case in which she was a witness. In July of this year the court admitted Zarema Musaeva is guilty of committing violence against government officials and fraud (Part 2 of Article 318 and Part 3 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). Before the verdict was announced, Musaeva’s lawyer Alexander Nemov and journalist Elena Milashina, who came with him, attacked unknown.

Ex-judge Saidi Yangulbaev connected the case against his wife with the activities of their sons. Criminal cases have been opened against Ibragim and Baysangur Yangulbayev for calling for terrorism and working with an extremist organization.
