A flare was recorded on the sun, to which scientists assigned a score of X5.0
A powerful flare of the current solar cycle was recorded on the Sun on New Year’s Eve; on Earth it should not affect any phenomena. This is said on portal Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics (ISTP) of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
It is indicated that the flare was the first powerful explosion of the current solar cycle, and can be regarded as an “event of exceptional force.”
“The explosion is approximately 2 times more powerful than the previous record-breaking events of this cycle… the flare was assigned a score of X5.0. The flare that previously took first place had a score of X2.8,” the report notes.
Although the event took place on New Year’s Eve, in world catalogs, which are maintained according to universal (London) time, experts mark it as 2023.
