The Russian Ministry of Defense announced the launching of the nuclear-powered strategic submarine cruiser “Prince Pozharsky” of the “Borey-A” project. The ceremony took place in Severodvinsk, Arkhangelsk region.
“The nuclear-powered submarine cruiser Prince Pozharsky embodies advanced technological solutions, experience and traditions of domestic submarine shipbuilding, which Sevmash shipbuilders, designers and scientists fully possess,” leads press service Ministry of Defense words from the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy Nikolai Evmenov.
He added that the submarine’s armament and technical characteristics will allow it to effectively carry out all its intended tasks. After launching, “Prince Pozharsky” will undergo the necessary tests, the press service of the Ministry of Defense clarified. The submarine cruiser will form “the basis of Russia’s naval strategic forces for the coming decades.”
In November 2023, the Russian Navy handed over two nuclear submarines – “Alexander III” and “Krasnoyarsk”. In total, the fleet includes three nuclear submarine cruisers and four nuclear submarines.
