Prime Minister of Finland Petteri Orpo said on the Yle TV channel that Finland does not intend to open checkpoints on the border with Russia. He stressed that the border closure will remain in force.

Orpo noted that there are thousands of people on the eastern border of Finland whose goal is to enter the country illegally.

“It is clear that we cannot cancel the closure of the border,” he said.

Finland began introducing restrictions on entry from Russia in November last year. The country’s authorities said that the decision was made due to the uncontrolled flow of refugees from third countries.
