The State Duma will consider depriving Vadim Belousov of his deputy mandate for absenteeism

On October 31, the State Duma Commission on Ethics and Mandate Issues will consider the issue of depriving Vadim Belousov (A Just Russia – For Truth) and Vasily Vlasov (LDPR) of their parliamentary powers. As commission member Nikolai Kolomeytsev told Interfax, both were blamed for their long absence from meetings of the State Duma and its committees.
The proposal to deprive Mr. Belousov of his parliamentary powers not as a result of the conviction on charges of receiving a large bribe that has entered into force, but because of his long non-participation in the work of the lower chamber indirectly confirms the assumptions of fellow party members of the convicted person and his lawyers that mistakes were made during the criminal prosecution of the deputy significant procedural violations. But the State Duma has all the formal grounds for depriving him of his mandate for absenteeism, since after August 2022, Vadim Belousov, hiding from law enforcement agencies, did not appear in the lower house.
As for liberal democrat Vasily Vlasov, as he told Kommersant, the main complaint against him is that the deputy did not attend meetings of the rules commission, of which he is a member. At the same time, Mr. Vlasov himself assures that he voted with a questionnaire – this form of participation in the work of committees and commissions is completely legal and was introduced during the coronavirus pandemic. He also said that the LDPR faction intends to support the recommendation of the relevant commission to deprive him of his mandate. “It’s sad that the faction supports. They can’t say I don’t work. I am an active deputy and never remain silent. I am always present in the hall and vote in person. Perhaps this is due to the fact that I raised the issue that some colleagues do not go (to meetings.— “Kommersant”), and now they are taking revenge on me,” the liberal democrat concluded.
